phil's brown Leone's Chinook Salmon Mary's' steelhead
Pulaski Weather Forecast, NY

"Come join me for a memorable trip as we tote fly rods and chase salmon, trout, and steelhead as they navigate the Salmon River and the many smaller tributaries to Lake Ontario. Your quality experience is my TOP priority! I am committed to providing you with a quality and enjoyable outing.

I cannot alter the mood of the salmon, trout, or steelhead or moderate the weather in Pulaski, or improve the fishing conditions. But I can see that you drive away at the end of the day knowing that you played the game fair and square-and that you gave 100% while doing so. My 30-plus years experience in the fly-fishing theater will help benefit you on the toughest of days, or leave you totally spent when the fishing becomes catching."

The Guided Experience

"Fly-Fishing the Salmon River"

Easily the most popular of the Lake Ontario Tributaries, the famed Salmon River offers it all to the inquisitive fly fisherman. During all 12-months of the year an angler can find excellent fishing for any number of species, but it's the fall, winter, and spring fishing that will keep you coming back! It's during these times that the river sees its annual influx of salmon, steelhead, an d brown trout.

Salmon are the early fall draw to the Salmon River! While targeting Chinooks and Silvers (also called Kings and Cohos) we'll sight fish, casting floating lines and streamers. This is a very aggressive, exciting, and effective method to take salmon.True, salmon lack the ability to feed once in the tributaries, but kings and cohos never loose their killer instinct. I play off their aggression and you will too! WFF fly lines, accurate fly casts and covering water will be the mantras of the day. These fish will take a fly-I will show you.

Steelhead are trout and that's how we'll treat them from late October through April. Be prepared to get a crash-course on the skills needed to take steelhead with a fly rod. You'll be able to take these skills anywhere trout live and be successful, plus you'll learn the nuances of steelhead fishing and behavior. Eggs, nymphs, and streamers all have their time and place. We'll use traditional/conventional flyrodding applications requiring an actual fly cast and line management skills.

"Critical Concepts for Small-Stream Trout"

Trout have been my passion since childhood. Now, as a medal-winning member of Fly-Fishing Team USA I have been afforded the honor of learning many of the highest-level tactics from many of the world's finest fly anglers. Let me take you to some small streams where we can explore some of the critical concepts I use in my recreational and international-level competitive fishing endeavors. My classes are independent, intensive 8-hour on-stream sessions on some gorgeous small stream trout water appropriate for novice as well as experienced anglers.

I currently offer the following classes: "Versatile Nymphing" and "Small Stream Streamers."

"Versatile Nymphing"

. "Versatile Nymphing" is designed to show the serious fly-angler several highly effective nymph presentations proven effective on our Eastern US trout streams as well as on trout and grayling waters across the globe. Expect to learn varieties of techniques befitting your skill level, and learn how to fish nymphs in nearly any type of water. Indicator nymphing through Czech nymphing and points between will be covered!

"Small Stream Streamers"

Streamer fishing can add a new dimension to your arsenal and pure excitement to a day's outing."Small Stream Streamers" will take you places with streamers that you may have never imagined. Designed for the small stream angler, the techniques I will show you are both effective and intense. Trophy Trout applications and/or universal applications will be covered.

In addition to offering these courses as a guide service in the Syracuse area, I am pleased to take them on the road as a group, on the water class for your local club. Feel free to contact me for more info on rates and availability for your local fishing club.
