I was born in northeastern Pennsylvania where I was raised with a love for the outdoors. Many hours spent in the woods and on the waters with my father planted a seed that has now taken root in Upstate New York. I have been fly-fishing and tying flies, to some degree, since I was a child. My early years consisted of learning about the behaviors of stream trout through the observation of the native brook trout and hatchery species that I pursued with my dad. Each new outing seemed to foster a deeper desire to learn, and as I learned, the more driven I became. That cycle has not ceased. As a professional guide, commercial tier, instructor, and still avid angler I am living the dream life-and it keeps getting better! I attended Penn State University and graduated in 1992 with a BS in Wildlife and Fisheries Science. My time in State College, PA-outside the classroom-involved years of serious strides up the fly-fishing learning curve. At the time I did not know what lay ahead, but I knew I loved this sport. The dream after graduation was to land a research biologist position, but instead I found myself managing watersheds and supervising potable water treatment facilities for a major PA utility. I still fished and hunted as much as time would allow, but it was never enough. In those years I married my wife Heather and became the father of a daughter (Mickayla) and a son (Ryan). Soon after, some changes developed. My wife's call to pastoral ministry became decidedly prominent and I became increasingly displeased with the corporate workplace. Two unhappy parents do not make for a happy family. So I quit, we moved, and here I am. Okay, it has not been quite that simple. The journey has been long but oh so positive. In a nutshell, I am doing what I love, my wife what she loves (and is meant to do)-and our kids have happy parents. As a licensed guide I promise to apply the fishing and tying skills that I have honed over the past 3 decades to work on your behalf. I understand the fish we'll pursue and the places in which we will pursue them. I appreciate your visit to my Website. I want you to know that I view your interest in a guided fishing trip as an investment in your angling career and an investment in the fishery I love. I take both very seriously. Please, have a look around. I am confident that you will like what you see and I'm always available to answer any of your questions. I hope we can make a day of it sometime.... Regards, Loren |
